Prof. Dr Abdullah Kaya is a scientist of international renown in the fields of veterinary medicine, reproductive biotechnology, and sperm and embryo technologies. Throughout his academic career, his research has contributed to significant scientific advances in fertility management in cattle breeding, sperm biology, genomic markers, embryo production technologies and reproductive efficiency.

Prof. Dr. Kaya, who completed his veterinary medicine training at Istanbul University, graduated in 1992 and subsequently completed his doctoral studies at Selçuk University, obtaining his PhD in 1996. He began his academic career at the same university as a research assistant and subsequently held various academic posts. In 2001, he joined the research group of Dr John J. Parrish, a world-renowned expert in reproductive biotechnology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, to carry out his postdoctoral research. There, he conducted advanced research into sperm function, male fertility, embryo development and paternal genomic effects. He subsequently joined Alta Genetics Inc., one of the world’s leading cattle genetics companies, where he carried out fundamental and applied research into bull fertility, sperm production, semen technologies and genomic efficiency markers. As a result of this work, he contributed to the identification of sperm proteins, microRNAs and other biological markers that influence cattle fertility.

Today, Prof. Dr Abdullah Kaya continues his work as an Honorary Research Scientist in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He also serves as an advisor, researcher and member of scientific committees in international research projects.

Scientific Impact and Academic Contributions

Prof. Dr Abdullah Kaya’s research has:

- Molecular markers of bull fertility,

- Sperm genomics and proteomics,

- Embryo production technologies,

- Reproductive biotechnology,

- Sperm cryopreservation,

- Fertility management in livestock. In particular, his research on sperm biomarkers associated with bull fertility has contributed to the development of new evaluation methods used in modern cattle breeding.
